New 2006 Aero Owner

Hi there everyone!

I am new to the forum. I just purchased a clean title Black 2006 Aero, (automatic, cold weather & sunroof) yesterday. Biggest draw was that it only had 62k miles and the interior and exterior are in really nice shape. The emblems (the blue color) is worn off on hood and rear hatch but that's it. Maybe I can find new ones? I got it from a small reputable repair shop and dealer who did some light general maintenance work on it and checked it all out before selling.  It's a one owner car that was in DC for 3 years then in CA (Los Angeles) for the rest of the time. Very clean vehicle. Carfax looks good too with regular service and oil changes.

I have a few questions. I am not 100% sure the timing belt has been replaced yet. The owner of the shop said they checked it out and it looks good, like it has probably been replaced or just isn't worn yet. The guy seems honest but I don't know. They did replace a few other belts (I think serpentine). At 62k miles and 10 years old should I have it replaced now or at least inspected by someone I know/fully trust where I live? Or is 62k still fine even though its 10 years old?

An other thing - The front tires are brand new (purchased by the seller) but the rears are not quite as new, still good but with AWD I am not sure if they should be exactly the same.  They are different brands. Should I go ahead and just replace the rears so they have the same tread or will I be okay if they are pretty close?

I am not looking to seriously mod the car but I'd like to install a blue tooth stereo and maybe find some all weather floor mats right away. Anyone have any recommendations on what mats to get or nice fitting dash kit for the stereo? I can look through the other forum pages if that is more appropriate but just thought to ask quickly here.

Thanks in advance and I look forward to chatting with you all in the future! Cheers!

P.S. I'll try to figure out how to link some photos of the car.

Get a matched set of tires: brand, size and wear. Sell the others.

Re: New 2006 Aero Owner

For the stereo, if you want to go single DIN, get a Forester pocket.  It helps give it a clean look.  Otherwise just go with a clean double DIN radio.  Everything bolts up pretty much to the stock bracket in the car.  Simple install.  I also had Weather Tech digital floor liners in my car, loved them.  They cost a pretty penny but are really well made.  Whatever you get, just get it for a 2006 Subaru WRX wagon, don't bother trying to find 9-2x specific mats since they are the same.

Re: New 2006 Aero Owner

if you havent heard of it, crutchfield is a fantastic place to source stereo components. they offer free step by step instructions for installation and their technical support is the best ive experienced, even at 8pm on friday night!
they also offer all the right pieces for a clean fit in the dash if you end up getting something that is a different size.

Re: New 2006 Aero Owner

I'm wondering if I paid too much. 11k for 06 with 62k miles. It was really hard finding a low mile clean automatic 06 aero. paint is flawless too.  I need an auto as my wife drives the car too and we live in SF. Lots of hills and traffic.

Did I get fleeced? I tried talking down but it was tough and I didn't want to lose out on the car...

Thoughts?

As the registry guru here, I'll say to be proud that your car is one of nineteen 4EAT Black Aeros with cloth interiors.

Re: New 2006 Aero Owner

If I change the timing belt just because of age rather than miles do I need to change all the other stuff too? Tensioner assembly, idlers, bearings etc??

Yes, it would be rather foolish not replace everything.

I bought my 06 Aero manual with 49k miles on it for 12k. Even if it had an auto in it I would've still paid the 12k. I don't think 11k is terrible and really its up to you on what its worth.

Re: New 2006 Aero Owner

I paid 12k with 76k miles a few years ago with bad paint and dents lol. Still worth it.
