Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

Thanks for the Paint-O-Shop. I also searched for quite a while trying to find a fully painted version of this wheel, with no success.

However, it is interesting to note that Foose Wheels made/makes a wheel that Ford obviously was trying to copy:

http://images.foosedesignwheels.com/images/slides/Mustang_Foose_Outcast_2.jpg

It was originally designed in 2012, and launched in early 2013 - Just before Ford started putting the wheel you all love to hate on the Mustang.

They look sooooo much better one solid color.

I'd go with black I think, but a bronze like I did on the FoST could look fucking hawt.

just dip one of the wheels and see how it looks.  if you don't like it, peel it.
i'm in the camp that thinks these are ruining your otherwise awesome car. sorry.

That's the solution right there. Dip them.  up

Hammy, how has your dip held up?

The clear has definitely dulled but it still looks good, I'll take update pics when I put them on in a month or so.

Regardless, yours are better than the saleen style 5 point wheels...

The Shelby wheels are pretty nice, but a full set would still be 1600-2000

SOMEONE out there will LOVE those ugly ass shoes you've got on there.  keep 'em nice and sell them ASAP.  lol   spider

AMR sells Mustang wheels that are dirt cheap that look like the Shelby wheels. No idea about the quality, but they are cheap enough that you might be able to not GAF while you run them as a placeholder if you need to look for something better. I actually like the way they look, irrespective of price. Again, you can't get out of those stock wheels soon enough. No amount of plastidip can salvage what is an inherently  terrible spoke design.

I feel bad for Matt. He has agreed he isn't crazy about the wheels, but all this shade getting thrown has to be a downer.

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

Yeah, it's kind of shitty to get this amount of flak after seeking and finding a car I really wanted for months, and getting shat on because people hate the wheels. For what it's worth, I've had more people tell me in person that they really like them than the number of people in here that have told me how awful they are.

My original wheel preference were these:
http://mustangsdaily.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/10-2013-mustang-brembo-package.jpg

My car didn't come with them. I got what I got because the car attached to those wheels was one of the nicest examples of the car I was looking for. I don't like the wheels, but it's what it has. There is no possibility right now to replace them right now, but I will continue searching for the wheels above.

I haven't found a wheel that I like anywhere, including the AMRs above. But I'm an old fuddy duddy, not hip to the newest coolest trends...

You realize there is a reason people online are more upfront about the wheels?

Anyways, everyone has said awesome car, if you don't want people's opinions don't share it online.

You guys are getting soft.

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

Soo, sorry about being a dick back there. I think we may have overstated our points and in doing so, went past "constructive criticism" and headed straight to Doucheyville.  neutral

Anyhow, fact remains that you have an epic daily driver and should be commended for buying one of the last true pony cars. How are you liking it? Isn't it awesome being able to get into a badass muscle car and hear that V8 bark whenever you start up the car on what could have been a totally vanilla drive to work or the grocery store? I loved dailying a (much slower) Mustang GT, and found it to be remarkably doable and even reasonably practical as a daily driver most of the time. I hope you are enjoying the air of occasion that comes with any drive in that beast. I'm sure you are getting a ton of positive feedback from other motorists old and young, just like I did back in 2002-2004 when I rolled in my then-new New Edge GT. I had no idea just how iconic the Mustang is to the general public until I owned one myself. It's a pretty reinforcing experience, isn't it?

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

All I wanted was for the wheel flak to go away, but it never did. I had planned on letting this thread simply die since it had gotten so negative about something that didn't matter to me.

Nick - I'm glad that you came forward to share your Mustang experience with me, because that exactly what it's like to drive this car. Everyone knows what it is. Everyone looks at it, and with the louder exhaust than stock, everyone notices it. Everyone tells me that the gray color is perfect and it makes me glad I didn't end up with a blue or red one. I've never been one to demand attention in traffic, this car does it for you.

It is perfectly happy to drive around in 6th gear at 40 mph, and can be perfectly quiet and sedate when you want it to be. When you punch the go-pedal, though it's a beast. In the 9-2x, it was always tugging on the reins, prodding you to drive faster, which required the wait for the boost to kick in. Not with this car - roll on the throttle in any gear and you're gone.

I've had waves and nods from dozens of people in traffic, and a throttle blip yesterday caught the attention of a Fox-body LX yesterday who promptly gave me a dual thumbs up.

I've ordered a sound tube delete kit (if only to clean up the engine bay), as well as LED bulbs for the license plate. I also rotated the tires - the back ones were getting a bit worn, the fronts were new. I'll just burn them off a little to even out the wear.  biggrin

Despite the internet veil which lets anyone shit on anything without regrets, the wheels are NOT as bad as pictures show them. They are slightly concave, and have a very nice complexity to the spokes. I KNOW that black painted wheels were overplayed by 2012, and OEMs should just cut it out - but the more I drive it, the more I just don't care what others think. Unsolicited personal opinions shared by others confirm what I already know - it's an awesome looking, and iconic car.

The best part about the attention you get in a tastefully equipped, stockish Mustang is that nearly all the attention you get IRL is extremely positive attention. It's not polarizing in the way that an orange lowered Civic with a big wang is going to make you either love it or want to run it off the road. Nearly everyone loves a Mustang. Whether or not they want one themselves, they can appreciate what a cool car it is. Even the police seem to like a Mustang in a way that is very unexpected, as they tend to harass other performance cars much more than they do a nice American pony car. They will notice you but not in a bad way, for the most part. I got caught doing some really stupid shit in my Mustang and the cops were far more lenient than they were when I got their attention in other cars (other than my Cadillac, which everyone IRL seems to love almost as much as they loved my Mustang).

The only overt hate I ever got was from people in F-bodies, who seem to despise the Mustang in a way that you have to experience firsthand to believe. I never knew the animosity between GM and Ford fanboys was so real, but it is. Never made any sense to me, but anyway, it is what it is: yet another way for rednecks to have something to quarrel about. Also, other modern mustang guys don't seem to like seeing similar Mustangs on the road. Many of them will either glare at another modern mustang or ignore you altogether, seemingly wanting to be the biggest dick in the gym shower, or something like that. You'll see that many Mustang guys bought them because they want to be the baddest guy on the block, and you threaten their alpha male status. Pretty ridiculous, really. Oh, and while they may not hate you, every kid in a souped up Honda or WRX will want to see how they do against you. You'll have a lot of fun playing with yahoos but you'll have to be selective about it otherwise you'll get in a lot of trouble with that car, lol.

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

Yes! The F-Body vs Mustang thing is so silly. Both cars had obvious strengths and weaknesses and both were pretty dope after 1987, the Mustang a few years sooner. The feud ends with the 2002 cancellation of the F-Body, and if anyone is being fatalist about the new generation cars, it's stupid all over again, because both are great lineups.

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

Well, comparing 2014 to 2014:

Camaro SS: 6.2L OHV 16v V8, 426hp @5900/420tq @4600, 3908lb
4.5 0-60, 12.7@110mph
Mustang GT: 5.0L DOHC 32v V8, 420hp @6500/390tq @4250, 3618lb
4.3 0-60, 12.7@111mph

So my car has 6 less hp, and is down 30tq - but weighs almost 300lb less (demonstrated by the quicker 0-60). I also prefer having a more sophisticated motor, and actually being able to see out of the car.

Re: Matt's now-completed quest for the perfect 2013-2014 Ford Mustang GT

I always thought the Mustangs looked better than the Camaros, and that idea was reinforced more when they decided to bring back the Camaros.  The newer Camaros look butt ugly and have no visibility.  It's frickin 2017 and they still haven't addressed that issue  unamused

If you ever decided to go a different route with the exhaust, check out the Roush exhausts.  One of my favorite sounding exhausts from any car, hands down.
