Lights wont turn off

Ok another annoying problem.  I drove my 92x today about 140 miles.  I noticed earlier that the lights would not turn off when I got out of the car.  Now I am home.  The car is locked, it's been sitting for awhile and still the daytime running lights are on.  Anyone have this happen?

Dealer Guy here  big_smile
Noob!!!      j/k
That's happened to alot of people...we actually had a customer bring their car to the dealership for this.....
Kinda makes us look bad cuz the tech messed with the car for a while, then I happened to walk by and ask whats wrong with the 92x since we dont get very many in, and he says the lights wont turn off...so I look all smug and stuff and walk over and flip the switch off.
Now the tech knows...... big_smile

Cheers,

Scott

Re: Lights wont turn off

The switch allows you to leave the parking lights on when the ignition is off.  As you know, when you turn the ignition off on Subarus, the lights go off (regardless of the position of the 'main' switch on the turn-signal stalk).  That's all the switch does, I think.  Kind of stupid.

Re: Lights wont turn off

arrow-up what he said.

I think it's an european feature, for when you are park on the side of the road, you are require to have your parking lights on. In my BMW, if you turn the car off, but left the signal on, i.e. indicating a right turn, the right blinkers will stay lit, not flashing.

.......Yes rob M it happened to me today......
.......Trev we now have a love hate relationship going on

boy do i feel MR.

and the worst thing is that i am a Danm MECP installer for the last 9 years........and i just got the car back from the dealership after having a new clutch put in and figured id check out my remote start system as id rather replace that easily before going and griping at the dealership

............ i had the danm under dash back off and the security systems parking light output wire disconnected, and was just about to pull the instrument cluster to pull the brain gor the remote start.......

........reached up w the screwdriver to pull the cluster bezel......... and BLAAAAAAAM the little red switch that was on got accidentally turned back off...........

what a asshat, as i sit here and laugh at myself...... i guess i needed to be brought down a couple of pegs.

......but there is a reason that this happened. today in Vegas its friggin 115* outside and a dang can of 7up exploded in my car as i was eating lunch @ the cheescake factory.  walk out and pop was EVERYWHERE. the can had reached a temp to where it actually blew the top off of the can. i was a little surprised, and spent the next 30 min cleaning up a dashfull of sticky soda.  in the 115* heat.

Very uncool.

so, i must have inadvertantly wiped the switch into the on position earlier today on accident as i was cleaning and didnt notice.  i NEVER use that thing at all.

just thought id share that one with yall.........

Re: Lights wont turn off

gawd, I just about had heart failure tonight when my lights wouldn't turn off  banghead
I've just been going through that neutral-switch-starter thing  banghead

...but thanks to this thread, I found the problem - who knew? I didn't know that switch was even there - (let alone what it was there for) - but yay, it's "fixed".

That's an old English feature. When Brits used to park, the only parking lights required to be lit were on the side away from the curb. The curbside lights do not need to be lit. If you leave the turn signal switch to the left, it may well only leave the left side p-lights on.

The Subaru feature in many ways is a kludge. In most other cars, if you leave the lights on either the mains or p-light on position and turn off the key, the p-lights stay lit, even if you remove the key. Same idea as the Scoobie steering column switch, a bit more intuitive.

And I thought the Brits and the Germans had some pretty dumb electrical ideas (seriously, IMHO this is one area where the Americans excelled, designing automotive electrical systems. Much more intuitive, better thought out. Only bad part is the gauge of wiring used for the headlights.

Re: Lights wont turn off

you dudes and dudettes are great... neighbor came to my door to tell me my lights were on... thought maybe i left the fogs on (didn't know they were key on/off)... then i thought it was the parking lights  (ie the first click when you roll the lights on)... even thought it might be the parking brake switch that turns the driving lights off when brake is engaged... nada... next thought... go to 92x.com... and wah-la !  went to check the big fat red button on top of the steering column and it was on... doh  banghead... one click... and i'm back to eating my supper!   banana   roxor
cheers!

Thank God for Google searches and this thread. I had the cluster out earlier and didn't realize I hit that switch, or that it was even there.   wink
