1 recall turns to 3 recalls fixed!

So its been a while since I've posted anything significant. Between school, new job and wife smile life's been busy. The car's still bone stock, the usual synthetic T6 liquids change every 5kms. The only major service was the new timing belt and water pump at 92km (preventative) and audio upgrade.

Anyway, got the dreaded Takata airbag recall letter from GM - thought my 2006 MT linear was immune to. Called up GM and they wanted me to get my recall fixed at Fiat (used to be Saab) anyway I complain and call up a buddy of mine who works for Subaru dealership and ask if they can do it and have GM foot the bill.

Checked in for the takata passenger airbag recall - turns out GM has been sitting on 2 other recalls (transverse links and one way fuel valve replacement) that I never got the letters for. Long story short subaru fixed all three - GM covered the fixes. banana driving

Wow that's awesome! I have a 2005 Linear and have been meaning in getting those recalls done, but I haven't had the chance. How does the process work? I remember trying to contact GM about the recalls and they gave me such hard time in doing the work. I'm very surprised that you were able to convince Subaru to do the job and have GM pay for it. I ran a carproof check on my car in early 2015, wanted to know if I had any outstanding recall for lower control arms, sure enough I had one that was not done. I called GM of Canada and they gave me a hard time mad -  even went as far as to say my car was not on a recall list  banghead which was contrary to carproof!!  mad

Anyway when I got the Takata letter. I called GM Canada Recall Center - 1-800-955-9007 I believe its in the U.S. They tried to get me to go to a certified Saab recall "specialist" center unamused I insisted politely that it would be $200 worth of travel for me and that I needed compensation. I suggested Subaru dealer close by (my buddy works there). GM said they would cover the cost as long as....... Subaru agreed to install per the GM instructions and I would have to pay out of pocket and file a claim with GM.
Called up Subaru they said its fine they have been doing it for impreza's and a couple of Saabs too checkmark. I got Subaru manager to talk to the GM supervisor and the deal was done, checkmark I dropped my car off for 1 fix 3 fixes had been scheduled at the request of GM.
I paid Subaru once the job was done, submitted claim and got check in the mail. up

Not sure if I got lucky or these types of arrangements are normal...

Re: 1 recall turns to 3 recalls fixed!

I called my local Subaru dealer and they said that since its GM owned that they cant do the recalls. Meaning that GM would not foot the bill to a Subaru dealer since they are "not a certified Saab service center". Yeah, its dumb!

Here in Austin, Roger Beasley, the Volvo dealer is the one doing the recall strangely enough.

Re: 1 recall turns to 3 recalls fixed!

My Takata airbag recall fix was performed by the local European car repair specialist whose name was listed in my recall notice card from GM. No problem, made the appointment and it was fixed. So it appears GM will foot the bill to an outside (non-GM) repair specialist, but also noting that the name of the repair specialist was provided to me by GM.

Just had my airbag recall serviced yesterday. Easy peasy lemon squeezy

Re: 1 recall turns to 3 recalls fixed!

My airbag recall is scheduled for next Friday at the local Volvo dealer. They said it should take a few hours. Are the other recalls specific to rust prone areas? As far as I can tell my car has spent its life in the dry Texas Arizona area.
