Never heard of frisky's Dingoes but Archer is life.

Also ... Fargo season premier yesterday! WOOHOOOOOO.

Oh, right this isn't a TV thread. But maybe you could use that Transit motor to power a TV.

Re: Ford Transit Connect

Frisky Dingo is Archer's predecessor.  Same creative team, made for Adult Swim, better in every way.

Only downside is it only lasted for 2 seasons and the episodes are like 12 minutes long.

Re: Ford Transit Connect

One big one: the TC now has a clutch pedal.

It turned out to be about as easy as you could ever hope. The TC had the exact same bolt pattern and firewall pass through for the clutch line that is on the FoST. They share the brake fluid reservoir for clutch fluid, as the reservoir on the TC was even the same - has the nipple capped off for the clutch line, but in the same location as well. So that's pretty awesome. Looks like we won't need to order pedals from Europe, which was the backup plan if this didn't work out.

I'd post a picture but I'm on work travel without my personal laptop right now so I'll do that when I get back this weekend.

Wow you lucked out there! Always good to have something that goes smoother than expected when working on cars since it's normally the opposite. Excited to see the pic updates

Re: Ford Transit Connect

Here's the picture of the clutch pedal installed. The TC brake and gas pedal are still there, which is weird looking, but they'll all be swapped for the ST ones.

Re: Ford Transit Connect

Wow awesome to see more progress. Is the clutch pedal supposed to be higher than the brake pedal on an st, or are the van pedals just lower than the st's? Seems like it might make heel toe a little difficult.

Re: Ford Transit Connect

I think the van pedals are probably lower than the ST ones. We'll see what it looks like once the brake and gas pedals have been transferred over as well. I know a common mod is to add a spacer to the gas pedal on the ST to make it more even with the brake pedal for heel-toe purposes, but I'll see how they feel to me once I have it delivered and make adjustments if needed.

Re: Ford Transit Connect

The center consoles were removed from both vehicles this past week, and they test fitted the ST center console and shifter into the van just to see if it'd be an option.

http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj600/dotmaster206/ST%20consol%20inside%20TC3_zpsdk7iumv8.jpg

The ST console doesn't match up perfectly with the dashboard in the TC, but the ST e-brake and shifter will hook up perfectly from that location. So, there's that. Here's a shot with someone sitting in the van seat showing that the shifter location is ergonomically workable:

http://i1269.photobucket.com/albums/jj600/dotmaster206/ST%20consol%20inside%20TC5_zpstjiqtxmf.jpg

I had originally thought that the shifter would go where the automatic shifter was, basically coming out of the dashboard. After seeing these pictures and hearing that it would work there as well, I'm still partial to putting it in the dash and not swapping center consoles. I just like that van-ness aspect of it I guess. Vaccar is going to see what it'd cost to get the shifter cables and whatever else is needed from the UK to make it work in the more OEM TC way and we'll make a final decision after that.

Here's what it looks like in RHD in the UK with a 6 speed manual:

Re: Ford Transit Connect

I say leave it as pictured, especially if you're going for a sporty look.
I also think the other option will just require too much effort (money) to be worth it.

Re: Ford Transit Connect

We'll see what the cost is this week. Leaving it as pictured isn't really on the table - it would need some custom finishing work to integrate the ST center console with the TC dashboard so it doesn't look just thrown in there with those gaping holes and stuff. It would be driveable as pictured, but I wouldn't be happy with it at all.

It may actually end up cheaper to put the shifter in the original location where I would prefer it anyway. It really depends on what we can get from Ford and what the cost for that is. I'm almost certain that it is possible to do with no custom parts at all, which if that is the case may actually make it the cheaper route. From what I understand, the 6 speed manual TCs available in the UK use the B6 transmission, which is the same one in the FiST and FoST here, so the shifter connections should swap right in.

Re: Ford Transit Connect

My vote, were I to get one, would be OE shifter.

I was wondering what the plan would be to close the gap. I definitely think you have to go OE if possible. Finish will matter, plus funky shifter positions are part of the game. If you really find the driving position annoying, you can likely have a custom shaft fabricated to change knob position (though that might be trickier thanks to the reverse collar) .

But seriously, when I said leave it as is, I was assuming transferring of things over wasn't done and not considering custom fab.  You're probably right in your thinking.

Re: Ford Transit Connect

Given the lengths you've gone with this project already, this might be an opportunity to customize the interior to your liking, since you want it to be a nice place to be, aesthetically and ergonomically. While professional custom work certainly isn't cheap, spending the time to outline a vision of what you really want, ignoring parts constraint, might be the best option long-term for a project of this magnitude , since there's a good chance you'd end up wanting to modify the stock arrangement later anyhow.

Re: Ford Transit Connect

I agree, I'm not interested in making compromises. My vision is for this van to be as close to what I think a factory Transit Connect ST as possible (plus a few tasteful mods). I don't want it to be like a custom show car.

Re: Ford Transit Connect

I like the factory look a lot, seems like going that route would save you from potentially iffy custom work.
