Well, after my car sells so I can take cash for my down payment, I'm thinking of taking a small car loan to buy a Legacy GT or a 05 Legacy GT wagon.
How would anyone compare its handling characteristics vs. our 9-2x? It seems though as it will feel heavier and less tossable, but maybe the "luxury" inside will help negate any differences?
The legacy GT gears are stronger so maybe a Blouch 20G would be in the mix

The only turbo legacy I have driven was a SPEC-B that was heavily modified. It's a much more purposeful feeling car then the 9-2x, little less fun but more solid feeling. I loved it.

My mom drives an outback with the 2.5i and a M/T. The chassis is pretty good and it's a comfortable car, other then that nothing I can add would apply to the GT. I once raced a corolla from a light and lost, I'm not quite sure the woman knew she was racing.

My mom also drives an outback 2.5i and it feels like a boat, but it's really comfy inside and there's a lot less road noise. The idea of it being lower, a little tighter, and with a turbo MT sounds like a great idea. Except it really doesn't fit into the definition of a city beater. Though with my parking spot I'm less concerned.

I guess I might add, I like the legacy gearing and tranny much better then that of the 9-2x/WRX.
Better ratios and smoother, IMO.
I love the outback, it's endearing because you can have fun at legal speeds, that and I parked it on a small snowbank once.

I absolutely love the new Legacy GT's. I test drove one and it just felt way more solid than my old Legacy or my 9-2x, but it was out of my price range.
I really want to try a 3.0R

A friend of mine has a Stage 2 '05 LGT wagon... that thing is fast as balls!

This is for sale at my local dealer: http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?c … dard=false
But I think it's too expensive, I'd pay $16k and finance?

I have an 06 outback xt. I would have driven a legacy wagon if they had a manual. I like the utility of the outback and the higher ground clearance but I really like the look of the legacy wagon. Interior quality is very nice.

That's actually not that bad of a price. Spec B's hold their value much better than the LGT. You can find an '05 LGT for around $13k now.
I owned my 92x and my '05 LGT at the same time about 2 years ago. I had the LGT at stage 1 and the 92x was at stage 2. The power comes on very differently, but are probably about the same as far as quickness. The 2.5L in the LGT takes out almost all the turbo lag. But since you're coming from an '06 92x (2.5L) you probably are already used to not having the lag. The lag in my 92x seemed much more apparent after driving the LGT.
Handling was about the same, but my LGT had Tein springs and 18" wheels.
I still miss my LGT, and will probably be getting a Spec B in a couple months. I sold the LGT 2 years ago since I was getting a company car, and it looks as I will be loosing the company car soon, so I will be shopping for a Spec B. That should tell you how much I miss it and how much I enjoyed it.

Drove a lightly modded '05 (dealer installed "upgrade" suspension and exhaust, custom seats, not a significant upgrade, sold as new package, forgot the dealer's name in Rockland Cty, NY) LGT Wagon. You've got it pretty well pegged.
Stock power delivery is MUCH smoother than the '05 9-2X Aero, shifter somewhat better. The puppy breathes pretty well up to about 6K RPM, with smooth solid torque down low. Gets somewhat strained past 6K revs. Actually felt similar to my //S6, just a bit less guts from the bottom of the revs (did rolling launches, don't think the dealer guy would've appreciated hole shots) and considerably less pull from 6K to redline (mind you, that's a full pull to 110 MPH). Really not bad for a factory tune.
Handling, car is heavier feeling, more stable, still feels competent and capable, just a bit less tossable. Actually a pretty nice ride overall.
Interior esthetics, there is no comparison. LGT all the way.

Doesn't it seem silly to sell your car and then buy a relatively similar car with more miles for more money?
If comfort is a priority then I kind of understand, but it's not a whole lot more spacious than the 92x.

Unfortunately, I have to come up with a lot of cash for a condo I'm about to purchase, and like a moron I paid off the 9-2x without realizing I would be in a position to buy myself this place. So, sell car, get cash, and get into another loan

I definitely wouldn't spend a lot of money on a high mile spec B. Buy an LGT limited wagon with a few rough edges and drive it/ park it stress free, for a lot less money. The interior will be almost as nice as a spec B, and personally, I think the LGT wagon is better looking than any Legacy sedan. Totally reminds me of an S4 Avant, which makes me feel very :banana-ish: I drove a couple of stock LGTs, and they definitely scoot, are more comfy than the 92x by far, and would make excellent cruisers. Even the 4eat boogies, and seems much more appropriate in a heavy cruiser LGT than in a 92x. As a car enthusiast, you would enjoy this car a lot more than you would a beater impreza or linear, for not much more money. I'm thinking a white wagon with perforated charcoal leather, with a slight drop, a light tint, Stage 2, call it a day for about 15k total. Unless you autox, the handling difference shouldn't be significant, but it'll be a whole lot more stable and solid as compared to the twitchy-yet-still-undertired 92x. Dollar for dollar into the suspension, an LGT should be able to pull similar g's and take the same corners as any 92x, it just won't transition as rapidly, which isn't an issue unless you autox.

Wrong. As I owned both at the same time, the LGT is way more comfy and spacious. Any more than 2 people in the 92x and someone has to adjust their seat. In the LGT I had 4 adults in the car and neither myself or my front seat passenger needed to adjust our seats.

One of the biggest things I noticed was how much wider it felt. Much, much more shoulder room. In the 92x, when you have someone riding shotgun with you it feels like you are sharing a seat with someone on public transportation. The Legacy gives you much more room to spread out and relax.

Have you driven an Aero? The Linear and Aero have different ratios.

I love the wagon, I'm going to try to find a good deal on one. It's a bit large for the city, but we'll see what I can do. I'll have a parking spot so I shouldn't suffer that much with street parking. I do like the tossability of the 9-2x and I'm afraid I'll loose a lot of that, but I feel like I'll feel less like shit. One thing I like, is that the VF40 in the Leggy is a bit peppier than the TD04, but not as good as the VF39 in my 9-2x now, or someone correct me if I'm wrong. Protuned stage 2, I should be close to where I'm at now with my 9-2x with just a simple stage 2 setup.

Well I'm only 5'8" and 160lbs, so i've always had plenty of room in the 92x!

There is a TON more space in the current chassis Legacy than the Impreza/9-2X. Heck even the previous gen had at least more rear seat leg and headroom. And trunk. Even the original Legacy wagon had a more useful cargo area. I was able to transport closet doors in the old Legacy wagon. No possible way to put them in the 9-2X.

All of those cars look like good options, with the possible exception of the high-mile lgt, or the one that was enthusiast-owned with the cloth seats. Chances are good the 127k car needs struts, brakes, and clutch soon. On the silver sedan the price is right, but I think you'd regret not having the leather, and that car likely lead a rough life for the past 44k miles, judging by the somewhat ricey accessories, AP, etc. I'd say the red wagon is the nicest car in your lineup. Enthusiast owned, but likely driven with less violence than the silver car.
I like red, too. I think you could do without the gold wheels though. Keep it clean and simple, and enjoy a car that looks a little more grown up than a JDM'd out wrx/ aero. I think you'll like the new vibe.

errol, I really, really like that red wagon in VT. I think that's your car.
