I just bought a Dell Mini 10v and I'm surprised how zippy it is for everyday web browsing, word documents and email....
Now I'm thinking of turning it into a hackintosh after reading this blog on gizmodo:
http://gizmodo.com/5389166/how-to-hacki … rd-netbook
Have any of you guys done this? It looks really easy and in the article seems to run really well...
Thanks
-Mark

Posting from my 10V Hackintosh. Yes you should it's super easy. The Gizmodo guide is outdated by the way. If you have access to a Mac follow this guide: http://osx.mechdrew.com/guides/nbi1.shtml If you don't have access to a Mac follow this guide: http://osx.mechdrew.com/guides/nbi2.shtml Check out http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/ for any other questions. If you have any feel free to ask and I will answer them as best as I can.
Oh and don't bother updating the BIOS either. I'm running the A06 BIOS and followed the first guide. The updated (ie. final release of NetbookMaker) works with BIOS A06, and I was able to update to 10.6.2 using Software Update directly from SN. As of right now, all the updates can be installed, just be sure to run NetbookInstaller after any updates to avoid kernal panics. I also when to Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility and repaired all permissions. I've not once had a kernal panic. I got my 10V from Amazon with Windows 7 Starter and a 6 cell battery for $298 right after Christmas.

What screen resolution does the 10v run in as a hackingtosh? I was looking at the 10v since I had a 9 and liked it but the keyboard pissed me off.

Thanks murdoc, I'm waiting for my snow leopard DVD to get in so I have a legit copy. Once it gets in I'll do the windows only update.

1068 (maybe 1080) x 600 The dell mini website I linked has an add-on that once running will shrink the size of the next open window to 80% Certain programs like Garage Band need more than the 600 pixels and adjusting it to 80% makes it usable.

whats the point of a hackentosh?

Mac OSX on a computer that costs less than $300? You're right, seems pointless.

who cares what os is on it...
90% of the people on this board probably dont use either OS to its full capabilities.
the only thing i can see if it makes the computer faster... and unless i start seeing some linux speak i doubt anyone is going to argue for that fact.

You can spec it with Ubuntu if you'd like right from Dell.

Also because you can load OSX onto it and try to sell it for 250% profit on craigslist

Too funny...I mean upgrading the HD and the RAM is a pain in the ass but not worth double the price...LOL
