Please CHANGE You AC FILTER!

I know this has been posted several times before but... I had too,
I just bought the Aero, have had it for a few thousand miles now and I am doing the 60k maintenance at 80k miles.
This is what the AC filter will look like after 80k miles of abuse in MI...
Thank you Nick from Reid Performance for the part hook-ups. Awesome guy.

Re: Please CHANGE You AC FILTER!

Only the Aero has it from the factory.

The Linear/2.5i did not come equiped with one but IIRC you can put one in.  Someone correct me if I am wrong.  99% sure on this

Correct, if I remember right... Linear has the space to put them in... but Saab was to cheap to fill it up with a filter. It was ~$30. So yes you can go buy one, remove your glove box compartment and put one in their. I recommend it.

I know what you mean... but there is just something about driving a Saab and saying that you used OEM Subaru parts that just gives me a wonderful feeling big_smile

Did you notice any difference with the power of the air blowing out of the vents after you replaced the filter?

this. I do it every 15k miles. probably going to do it this weekend along with planning out my 60k maintenance.

I don't get joy out of spending way more for "subaru genuine parts" when nobody's going to notice it. Spend that on things like din pockets and cargo mats, and "my fifth subaru rainbow club" badges  tongue

I'm glad I changed, it, I just feel stupid for paying for a Subaru filter. Next time I'm definitely making my own.

Re: Please CHANGE You AC FILTER!

I just changed my cabin air filter and figured I'd add my photo to the heap of other nasty ones:

http://lh3.ggpht.com/_qGvlGpcQ1_M/TClploAP0yI/AAAAAAAAAFg/QxsSI9r8phE/s640/2010-06-28%2020.03.51.jpg

The stock filter is about 7.25"x8.25"x1.125".  I ended up buying a big 3M filter and cutting it up. They only had 1" thick filters, but it's close enough that it'll probably be just fine.  I got 4 air filters out of it for $5.

It's great, the blower can put out so much more air now!

Re: Please CHANGE You AC FILTER!

Here is mine:http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn107/deenasu/airfilter/IMG00228-20100725-1333.jpg
I replaced mine while waiting in the car for my wife to do some grocery shopping.  There was a Home Depot next to the grocery store so I bought a furnace filter for $9.00.  Then I pulled this out:
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn107/deenasu/airfilter/IMG00233-20100725-1339.jpg
and removed these:
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn107/deenasu/airfilter/IMG00230-20100725-1335.jpg
this happened:
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn107/deenasu/airfilter/IMG00229-20100725-1334.jpg
I needed to remove two wiring clips and pulled the old filter out and slid the new one here:
http://i302.photobucket.com/albums/nn107/deenasu/airfilter/IMG00227-20100725-1333.jpg
Replaced screws and glovebox.  Easy mod, done in 20 mins with a mini leatherman in a parking lot.  The filter is 1" and doesn't fit snug but I think it will be ok and the AC smells better.

Re: Please CHANGE You AC FILTER!

I made an honest attempt to "make my own", and managed to butcher a perfectly good Filtrete filter and waste $9 in the process. Tin snips and two pairs of sharp wire cutters had a difficult time getting through the reinforcement mesh/filter media.

Fuck it, I'm going filter-less. No point, really. My older cars never had these filters and I never noticed a difference (except decreased airflow when the filter clogs up).

No filter=higher airflow, cooler A/C.

I'll have to agree with him, fuck it, my other cars never had one and it's fine as is. Now I get an actual breeze flowing in with the blower off and the sunroof open! It just gives me an excuse to clean the interior more often!

Just did. Definitely not as dirty as the ones pictured above, but had the usual crap inside. Not too bad for 25K+ miles, lol.

And idk why aasst15 had to unclip his wiring from the glovebox, I managed just fine with the two wires in the way.  shifty
