Welcome to Saab92x.com!
Hi everyone, |
I'm new here. I bought this 9-2x Linear last week. The first day I had it I bought some new tires and changed the oil. Other than that, nothing special yet. Here are a couple iPhone pics:

I am new to Subaru's, but have wanted one for a long time. It's hard to find a decent, low mileage Impreza wagon here in Indiana so I always keep an eye out for 9-2x's. I happened to be looking at a competing dealer's inventory (yes, I sell cars) and spotted this Linear with no pictures and no information. It was literally fresh off the truck, they had just bought it from another dealer in Michigan. Filthy too.
I'm somewhat of a wagon guy. I have always liked them. Here are a couple wagons I've owned in the past:
2005 xB

1995 Accord

Mods for the 9-2x will probably be about the same; suspension goodies, wheels, maybe an exhaust for the Subaru grumble. Looking forward to modding this thing and being a part of the community!

Welcome from a fellow Linear owner! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
Eurospek might JIMP over that accord. I think we have a thread about slammed accords around here somewhere....

welcome!! damn, that accord's sick! lol.

Yah eurospek is going to jizz over those
I'm really not a fan of either of the looks though
but I respect the amount of work you put into them. I just hope you do that Linear justice
Welcome

Indeed. I love that generation of Accord wagons. We had a 94 Accord EX wagon bought new with 180K+ on it before it burned to a crisp last winter.

Thanks guys, glad to be here. I love 5th gen. Accords. All body styles, especially wagons. Timeless interior styling, super simple engine bay, and independent suspension. It's just damn near impossible to find one that isn't rusted through or extremely abused. I would've loved to build an EX coupe.
As for the linear; I'm kind of a wheels/suspension guy, which is why the Aero wasn't a must have. I'd like to make it look and sound good. I could use a few pointers on where to find a good intake and exhaust to achieve that low rumble I'm looking for.

My last project was this Mexican shit box Sentra. Talk about low build quality:

It had an lsd and a 6 speed, but only about 150 hp. Everything rattled, it was top heavy, major wheelhop and torque problems, and no matter what you do to it, ugly as sin.

For that subaru rumble, you are going to want to go for a UEL headers kit. If you can get that, plus a HFC for the midpipe and an axleback, you will be golden in the sound dept.

I've got an STI axleback on mine. I wasnt trying to mod it for performance, I had one from my STI so I put it on.
It adds just the right amount of rumble but not at all loud.
And it looks a lot better than the tiny muffler on the Linear.

The Sti axle back wont really give you the rumble that you want i don't think but if you decide you want one, I have a low mileage one in my garage not being used

And that bolts directly to my mid pipe? If i pair that with a cai or sri, will I get a throatier tone?

A good way to find out is just to look it all up on youtube. There are loads of sound clips of different exhausts on there.
Offline
Took your advice, and you were right. Not sure that's loud enough for me. Then again, YouTube videos don't really seem to give you very accurate sound.
Offline
Yah but an intake and a louder exhaust (although try to stay away from the annoying droning ones) will give you the right sound. I hope some linear owners pop in here to give you some more details cause I'm not to sure cause I've got an aero
Offline
I like touring type exhausts, rather than tuner/canisters. Not really into that look or sound. So the sti axle back def appeals to me. I might just try it out to start, and change it up later if I want moar sownd. How much are you looking for? +shipping to 46250. I'll shop local too, see if anyone around here has a spare.
Offline
I'd want 75 for the axle back (that's what i paid for it and only used it for a month) not sure how much shipping would be. To be honest you would probably be able to find one for a similar price closer to you so you could cut back on the shipping price. So look around and if you can't find something better then hit me up. I'll go see what the shipping will cost tomorrow even so

UPDATE
I got an '05 STi axleback bolted on. I also picked up a WRX RSB and FSB for free. I'm starting to feel a bit more at home in this car:

Cars looking good :-). Literally just bought a silver
linear for my sister. Those things are surprisingly torquey...much more so than the aero down low.
Notice a big improvement with the sways? I'll be applying my stickers on her car soon, basically as I upgrade
so will she. Likely she'll get my exhaust too.
I'll be watching your thread! Yeah I too am loving that accord.

welcome to forum. there's a vocal minority with Linears. also a wealth of information. we're always glad to help

Nice upgrades! I also have the STi axleback on my car. Love that low end rumble.

suspension mods on the linear are a must.
the wrx rear sway will help a lot, but iirc, the front sway is the same as the aero - 20mm.

I think you're right. I upgraded the front to aftermarket after I did the 20mm WRX rear. There's also a 17mm WRX rear, but the 20 is the one of choice.
And yes, suspension work is critical. With the right mods it's a *much* more entertaining car to drive, even with the marginal power.

I did the 20mm rsb. I haven't done the fsb yet, but I have a 20mm from the same wagon i got the rsb from. Not sure what the oem size is for the linear, but it looks like 17mm to me.
I also picked up wrx roof rails this weekend and finished the pita install yesterday. Pics in the next post.
