Changing Headlight Bulbs

Is doing so an easy job, or should I leave it to the service place?

Re: Changing Headlight Bulbs

Real easy.

Take off the battery on the driver's side, and take off the intake snorkel on the passenger side; you'll have plenty of room for your hands.

Re: Changing Headlight Bulbs

Real easy, just did mine last night.  Take out the battery for sure for room on the driver side.  Depending what intake you are using you might not have to remove anything at all on the pass side

I didn't even take the battery out, I just loosened it up enough to scoot it back a little.

Yes.

The only bulb hard to reach is the turn signal bulb.

Been there twice... first time I removed the side markers infor registration of the car... because everyone told me it was illegal in sweden... but the inspector told me it was legal when I asked him about it... well first time it took me several hours... next time this weekend it took me about 10 mins on the left side and 15 on the right side.  why have they placed the lamps on such a dumb place?

easy, just don't touch the bulbs with your bare hands.  The oil transfer can shorten their life.

Re: Changing Headlight Bulbs

arrow-up  Some bulb suppliers ship their bulbs with gloves for installation purposes (saves complaints, ship backs, etc.).  It's easy to do if you're careful.  IF not, or IF you need to be sure, use a lint free cloth and rubbing alcohol to clean the bulb after installing and before turning things on.  The problem is skin oils make hot spots on the bulb's glass, and the filament's heat will melt right through the glass. Clean off the oils, no more hot spots, bulb lasts.

It's a bit of a pain (not hard though) with the battery, considering I seem to have to do it 3 times a year.

Those, AND the corner parking lamps. Those are worse.

Re: Changing Headlight Bulbs

First post here.  (I recently bought a used 2005 92X Linear with Aero interior at 125,000 km.)

I bought a generic H1 bulb at Canadian Tire and had no problem changing the front passenger side.  One hint: I thought the bulb was somehow clipped into its plastic housing but in fact it's not.  Just give it a strong pull and the bulb will come free.

From what I understand, the linear with "aero interior" is a linear with "leather seats and a 6 CD  player".

-----

Returning to the thread topic, and using information in this forum and suffering another dead headlight, I looked at headlights in general and then changed the driver side H1 headlight.  (IMHO, the driver side is easier. True, I had to shift the battery.  Shift? I loosened the battery bolts and moved the battery about 1 cm.)

Having made my hands dirty twice,  and in hindsight, I would recommend changing both front lights at the same time regardless of which H1 light dies first.
