Welcome to Saab92x.com!
Hi everyone, |
So I've been looking for a car to replace my 03 WRX Wagon that I still absolutely love but need something more professional for my job. I found an overpriced completely stock 05 Aero with 75k miles for 12k but it's very close to home and wouldn't make me miss my wagon as much.
Then I decided to test drive a Golf TDi out of curiosity because my coworker was saying he could get close to 800 miles a tank and I drive over 200 miles a day. Wow, could not believe how easy it was to drive and how peppy it was. Interior was very nicely done. I have never seen a car pull in 6th at such a low rpm.
So I drive around 4-5k a month and know I will love the Saab, but as far as reliability These cars are scary. I can get a pretty good deal on the VW and save over 300 a month on gas alone and the car payment then would actually be cheaper than the Saab.
I realize the maintenance on a diesel is high, but the Saab could potetially just decide to spin a bearing at anytime and we all know how much that's costs.

I would almost think the maintenance on a 75k 92x would be higher than a new TDi. I vote for the TDi.

Since you drive so much Get the TDI. my brother just got a mk4 golf tdi and he hypermiled it and got 72 mpg. Please TdIs love long distance drives. That's what they are made for.

for the long drive i would look at the tdi as well. 25 mpg vs 50 mpg...no brainer.

I forgot to mention I drive a lot of back roads and will be on some pretty harsh roads. Most of my co workers drive trucks but some drive front wheel and a couple new guys have 370 zs lol.

Price on the Aero is a little on the high side, but not overpriced if it's in great shape. Also, remember this isn't a Saab, it's a Subaru. Look at the WRX of the same year for reliability concerns.
Either way, if price isn't an issue, get the TDI for sure!

It isn't often you go onto a model specific site and get this advice, but TDI all the way on this one.

With that torque in the TDi you still have fun.
Torque: 236 ft-lbs. @ 1750 rpm
Horsepower: 140 hp @ 4000 rpm

Man if you drive that much, TDI hands down. No question at all, especially if you like the drivability of the VW.
Gas prices will not be going down, period. Do the smart thing.

Is this even really a comparison? The golf is 7 years newer. It also sounds like you're more concerned with the monthly payment than the total amount of debt you'll incur, so it seems like a no-brainer.

That, and go look at the prices of used TDIs, even with ridiculous amounts of miles. They seem to depreciate quite slowly.

That's because the mechanicals (vs wonky interior electronics) are rock solid. These things don't wear out. And if you're in the car 200/day the added refinement will be a reward.
