Huh. I thought you were going to say that you got married and your wife already "misplaced" your balls.
This was the last thing I expected to see, and the first actual commentary from someone I respect enough to believe their opinions.
Thanks for getting the Volt. I hope it treats you well.

My first inclination is to hate it, but I also want to support GM, and people who support the domestic automakers, and I respect the fact that this car is some kind of technological leap forward/ tour de force for America, despite the fact that I would rather see you in a caveman-friendly 2003 Cobra or even a new Dodge Ram.
I feel so conflicted.

Should've got the diesel

Weather dependent you'll get about 30-45 mi on a full electric charge. After that the gas tank is about ~8 gallons. When the generator runs you get 36-42mpg. So you're looking at 300mi on a full charge and full tank of gas. And then you just fill up on gas and can continue on.
How's the cargo space?

Good enough. I've made a few trips with the car all packed up.

Any tax write off incentives on these? I would consider one if I got a deal like that. Nothing better than thumbing your nose at the oil companies. Is this a manufacturer incentive or did you just negotiate it?
I got a killer deal on our Prius during the time Toyota was going through the "surging" marketing nightmare. There was a glut of Priuses on the lots and Toyota kept piling on the incentives. Now you can't even get below retail.

My 11000 off included 7500 tax incentive.

I don't respond to fat people.
Congrats on the car man.

...good enough as in average citizen carrying all their vacation stuff around? Does the rear seat split, can, say, a dog's travel crate fit?

I wonder how the gas will age. Sounds like you'll rarely have to dip into the fuel.
That's actually one of the things they advise you about. They asked what my commute was and suggested that if it hadn't used a full tank of gas in three months that I should run the battery out and run on generator only.
That way I don't run into fuel issues.
Kind of a cool problem to have.
Any mention of an additive fuel stabilizer like Sta-bil?

No. Sales guy was incorrect. Maintenance mode runs the engine now and again.

That's what I said in post #17. Glad I'm here to post up the facts.

Hey Topher - update on your old 9-3: My office mate just returned from a roadtrip over the holiday and was commenting on how much he loved it. It has maybe 25K more and always returns 32 mpg - and rides awesome now that it has the coilovers removed.
Forgive the O/T - I was just checking in this thread when he came in talking about it this morning.

That's great!
I was just telling Carley this weekend that that's the only car I've really missed.
Those coilovers were such a horrible addition. But I warned him and priced accordingly. I'm glad it worked out for him. He and his wife were super nice.

Yeah, this really clears up the issue.

My dad drives a Prius, maybe I can get him to switch to a Volt once his Prius gets old.
Oh wait, nevermind, he's a right wing nut job, and the Volt is political now.

So it is a hatch sedan - ie kind of a weird trunk? Or really a hatch? How would a decent sized dog(s) fit in there?

Basically this. I've contemplated it, and I think with my 14mi each way commute & the likelihood that I can steal electricity from work, it might benefit me. Plus, my potential savings on gas offsets the higher monthly payment...

It's a shallow hatch. You could could fit a mid sized dog in hatch. But it would probably be better to fold one of the seats down. It's hard to describe cargo capacity.
It's practical. But not a deep hatch like say a 2000 Saab 9-3.

I'll be very surprised if my next vehicle isn't the Cadillac ELR or the next generation Volt. I'm seriously that enamored by it.
I challenge anyone to to out and test drive it.
Keep in mind, I didn't cross shop against any hybrids, only the new 328i, the upcoming ATS, the Tiguan and the Passat Diesel. The 328 and A were at the top of my list. But I couldn't bring myself to buy an automatic. Carley can't drive a manual and too often I need to use her car, leaving her stranded.
Then once I realized how good of a deal the Volts were and test drove one... I was set.
