PVGP 2013

Last month I went to the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. It was my first time going and I will definitely be going in years to come.....It basically is a week of car events throughout Pittsburgh but then Sat/Sun they have car show/time trials and car show/races. Only got to go Sat but was really cool to see Vintage cars rippin’ around the track.  driving

Subaru is the official rally car of the event & is the only car to get a police escort onto the golf course. Yes, all the cars are positioned in groups all over the gold course, greens are blocked off. We meet early Sat morning and motorcycle police escorted us through Pittsburgh & on to the grounds. We kind of just creeped though the city but it was very cool to see all the subies and here the rumbles. We all got some free swag for participating. It was very cool to be rolling with easily 80+ Subies! I was the only Saabaru biggrin Meet some really cool people and saw sooo many cars supercars! FTW pay me....

Subaru loving there enthusiasts, held a judged car show with two classes. Stock & modified. I wasn't going to enter but my wife made me....I ended up winning 1st for the stock class! I was very shocked and honored at the same time. It feels good that all your blood, sweat, and tears get noticed. I did meet one member from here, Saabarup. Very cool, and has moved on to a STI limited which was parked behind me and very nice. Well, time for the sex.....

Congrats! That is very cool!

Nice pics but, where are the vintage cars?...I almost prefer those then the modern supercars, especially when they are hitting the track smile

Thanks, unfortunately I was unprepared…..When the wife and I ventured up near the track we were in search of food and I did not have my camera. It was really hot and humid that day and I was a little flustered from sweating, cleaning the car, and walking all over the course. Next year I plan to go both days and get some pics of the racers.

Re: PVGP 2013

arrow-up several car mags (R&T, Autoweek, Automobile, ...) have picked the PVGP as one of the MUST car guy/gal auomotive events (Monoco GP, LeMans, Goodwood, Indy, Daytona) to go to in ones lifetime. I'd agree in part b/c it's the only one I've managed.

FWIW, when I went, it was also stiflingly hot.  I really felt as if I were in Georgia, like I had travelled to another part of the country.  For natives of SWPA, does it always get that hot in mid summer?

Re: PVGP 2013

Wow, that event has come a long way.  I was a corner worker at the very first PVGP, back in 1984 or thereabouts.  A dry sump Jaguar dumped 12 quarts of oil in my turn, we barely had enough oildry to clean it up, even poaching from the other corner stations.

Re: PVGP 2013

Yeah, who knew?  I lived in Cleveland at the time, and belonged to Lake Erie Communications, the NEOhio flagging group.  Steel City Region asked LEC to help run the corners for the event; at the time they didn't have a whole lot of F&C workers, this was long before Beaver Run was even an idea. I assume SCR runs it now.  I'm pretty sure that 90% of the town didn't know it was going on.  I moved to Michigan the following year and never made it back, more's the pity.

Yes, minus the heat it was very fun. Next year I plan to go both Sat and Sun along with taking a cooler with my favorite beverages!!  embeer embeer embeer embeer embeer embeer

SWPA weather sucks! Hard to believe it's almost mid August. It is either extremely hot, like Georgia, rainy/cloudy or cold.... unamused Last week it was super hot and humid, today I turned on my seat heaters on my way to work because it was low 50's.....

1984, that’s the year I was born!!! I bet back then it was really unheard of and low budget. The last few years I have been seeing flyers for the event but have never thought it was such a sight to see. Now there are events all over Pittsburgh featuring cars for the whole week! It really is a great event, especially because its for charity.

Thanks! Yea it was defiantly a Subaru that gets used! I spotted a screwdriver just wedged in his top radiator support and a few other tools just floating throughout his engine bay.... roxor

After hearing about SWPA weather, any thoughts of moving there have mostly evaporated. I HATE heat + humidity.  facepalm

Wow haven't been back to the forum in a while.  It was nice meeting you man, and thanks for the shoutout!.  Congrats on the win!  The locals love Saabarus, but they are an endangered species.

I go to this event every year.  One of my favorite weekends of the year.  The Scoob community is great in Pittsburgh. We all get together and drink and look at cars.  It doesn't get any better than that.

Dude, you have know idea.  That's my friend's Foz and it is bonkers.  The guy is super talented and fabricated an air to liquid inter-cooler that has a core directly over each head.  The entire intake tract is shorter than your arm.

Oh, and that Foz is for sale if anyone is interested.

Re: PVGP 2013

Hey guys, I was just sent over here by a referring member when I asked about a blue saabaru I have seen floating around town in western PA.

Animal, where are you located? I have seen you now on 2 occasions, the most recent time you were down in Evans City heading out 68 I believe. The funny part is that there is a garage 200 feet from that corner by the railroad tracks, and a guy that works there has a Silver linear. So there was 3 of us, all within a 100ft radius. No idea who he is, I just pass him everyday on the way to work.  I am not 100% sure, but I think he used to (or maybe still does) own a Nissan 240sx that was roll caged, and looked setup to Drift/AutoX.

I just picked my car up 2 months ago, with it being a bone stock linear. Been reading up on here/NASIOC/RS25 to get ideas for future updates. Right now, I just want to make sure she is set to go for the winter which is not nice around here as you know. It's a DD but with only 76k on it. Let me know if you're in the area, I'd be interested to find anyone that has done work on their car, or at least a fellow to throw ideas across locally. Maybe next year I'll look into the PVGP also.

Re: PVGP 2013

Yea, I would love to make it also. I'll have to work around scheduling a bit. Wife and new 3 month old is taking up most of my time these days. And what little time I do have left, I spend working on finishing the basement, but that project is thankfully almost wrapped up as well.  That will open things up a bit, you know, at least until something else in the house decides to break, or need replacing.  banghead
